I agree with this. Recently I have learnt not to focus on the differences between people and i but yet to focus on the stuff we share in common. it's amazing how we can relate to any kind of person. At least this sort of life experience being a TCK has made me learn about empathy. it's one little tribe in the world itself and together we make the difference. not separated.

Ruth's advice seems good. As I'm looking back on a relationship that's currently falling apart, however, I see how frequently my husband, a non-TCK, seemed to view my TCK background as "different" and to impute some kind of superiority to me that I don't think I actually felt.

But maybe I project more "you wouldn't understand" than I think I do.

Dear Ruth,

Thank you for taking the time to write the email and share with us.
I am looking forward to learning more about what you meant by "If I look at any person I meet as someone who has some
fundamental places of “likeness” with me rather then looking first
at the “difference,” then I can also expect that we can relate at
these places despite the variation in details of our life story."

Thank you soooo much!
