My review of Robin Pascoe's teleconference.

Brice here. First, a bit of a confession: I am not an early riser.

In fact, I can't wake up early to save my life... and no alarm
clock is loud enough to wake me up, but I might be persuaded if I had
to catch a flight or collect a winning lottery ticket... well, one can
always dream.

But some people did miraculously wake up that early for the
teleconference!

Lori, a teacher from Tokyo said: "It's worth waking up for at 5am".

You can visit her blog here:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=PSnne&m=1e7ETlTKd.bYj1&b=F0sTKtjIfkIN7vX3bKfihQ

I don't know how much caffeine Lori needed to stay awake, but she
was right, it was definitely worth it.

More emails and comments from attendees:

"It was excellent. I like the advice concerning choosing an
University, And the warning about being a hovering parent was so
good too. I understand better now why kids tend to hide their past
when they come back to their parents' culture." - Francoise Merry

"Thanks! This was my first class, and I am looking forward to being
at more. I am a TCK who works with TCKs, but I'm not a parent of
TCKs, so I appreciated hearing the questions and getting
answers/ideas to share with the parents of the kids I work with." -Heidi Tunberg

In my opinion, the teleconference was technically smoother than our first one.
It was upbeat, funny, filled with practical advice, no background noise (!),
and interesting questions. Paulette and Robin did a wonderful job and handled it very
professionally!

I personally learned a lot from it.

What happened at the teleconference?

Robin shared this interesting quote with us: "A tree with strong
roots can withstand the most violent storm. ..."

I love that quote, because it made me think about the importance of
having roots and good habits.

She likes to ask young TCKs: "How many of you do your laundry?".

This made me chuckle because I'm in my early twenties and I only started
doing my laundry a couple of years ago! And I can easily find myself in an
international airport but I still don't have a driver's license...

Most TCKs don't have these basic life skills so she stressed
parents to encourage kids to be self-sufficient from the get go.

I agree, because one day TCKs will "come home" and have no idea how to
do simple thing like handling money or even do laundry.

Finally, I learned what is the "golden time" for relocating
children? How do you handle culture shock?

What to do when kids don't want to talk about their experiences?

What specific things can kids do to fit in at school?

What are the pitfalls to avoid?

... and so much more.

Overall, it was very educational, engaging and I really enjoyed it!

What didn't I like about the teleconference?

It was way too short!

Honestly, it flew by so fast, those 60 minutes felt more like 30 minutes
to me! And I believe a few late attendees had the automated audio introduction
overlapping with the teleconference... that's something we need to look
into.

What's next?

Our 3rd teleconference interview with Donna Musil on July 7th!

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=PSnne&m=1e7ETlTKd.bYj1&b=yoTzYBDyaFZ_0IYA3x8_kw

I've received a lot of emails from people who were disappointed to
have missed it, and I'm sorry that it was sent a bit short notice, (I really have no
control over the schedule!)

...so I'm now sending you an early notice for Donna Musil's
teleconference.

I highly recommend you register now and tell everyone so they
won't miss it either!

Have a good weekend!
